With some of the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders indulging in exchanges through the media, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt has directed all to maintain party discipline. Apart from this, he also directed party leaders to start preparations for the local body elections.

It should be mentioned here that allegations and counter allegations between the Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay and former minister Dinesh Dhanai who joined the BJP in the recent past elicited focus recently while the party’s State working committee member from Tehri, Khem Singh Chauhan reportedly posted content on social media contradicting the party line. Similarly, in Ranikhet, the MLA Pramod Nainwal and position holder Kailash Pant also elicited focus with arguments on an incident. Taking cognisance of these instances, the BJP State president had summoned these party leaders to the BJP State office on Sunday. In the meeting with Bhatt, all the leaders concerned admitted that there had been some misunderstanding which would not be repeated in the future.

Bhatt sat down with both the sides in all the issues involved to clear the situation. Nainwal, Pant, Upadhyay, Dhanai and Chauhan were present in the meetings.

Talking to the media after the meetings, Bhatt said that he had called the leaders regarding the reports being carried in newspapers and television channels regarding the internal matters of the party for some days now. They were all told to raise their issues on the party platform. It was emphasised that all have to maintain the party discipline while discharging their responsibilities.  “Any new or old member of the party should avoid making statements in public and raise the issues as per the rules of the party. The direction to observe discipline applies to myself and all the workers of the party. All the leaders involved admitted that the issues were minor but escalated in the media due to misunderstanding. They also admitted that these issues could have been resolved with mutual dialogue. These issues are now closed after being discussed face to face,” Bhatt said.

Bhatt further said that in view of the upcoming local body elections, a panel of two to three names will be prepared according priority to adding voters to the local body voters list. Regarding the allegations levelled by the Congress regarding the raised power tariffs, he said that the Congress should first check the power tariffs in the States it is governing.
