Civil Defence mock drill will be held in Dehradun on Wednesday as part of a nationwide security drill. Dehradun is one of the 244 districts across the country where the mock exercise is being conducted in response to heightened security concerns following the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The mock drill in Dehradun is scheduled for 4 PM on Wednesday and will be conducted within the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) limits. The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said that all preparations have been completed and meetings were also held with all departments concerned to coordinate properly during the drill. “We have assessed the locations, available resources and team readiness for the drill. The aim is to ensure that officials and agencies remain alert and are capable of responding effectively in case of a real emergency,” the DM said. He further stated that the drill will evaluate the condition and readiness of shelters, the functionality of sirens and the coordination capacity of the district’s incident response system. It will also test the communication flow from central authorities to concerned agencies. Bansal said that Dehradun has a total of nine sirens, which will be activated during the exercise to simulate a real-time alert scenario. Locations of sirens in Dehradun are Dhara Chowki, NIEPVD at Rajpur Road, Lakhibagh police station, collectorate and Araghar police station. Bansal emphasised the importance of public awareness during such drills and stated that it is essential for civil society to understand how to respond when alarms, alerts or transmissions are issued by the administration.
