The police arrested a 72-year-old man Rajiv Dutta in connection with an elaborate land fraud scheme involving fake property registries of at least Rs 50 lakh. Dutta, who was apprehended on Wednesday from Canal Road in Dehradun, is accused of conspiring with others to execute fraudulent land registries, extracting at least Rs 50 lakh from several victims, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that the investigation started when Rajiv Talwar, a resident of Tyagi Road in Dehradun, filed a complaint at Rajpur Police Station on June 17, 2024. He reported that Dutta and his associates, including Krishna Kumar Jaiswal, had done a fake registry of his land without legally registering their company, demanding Rs 50 lakh from him under the pretense of legitimate business operations. Talwar also alleged that the accused pressured him to sell his land to them. The investigation, supported by documents from the Dehradun registry office, Revenue department and various banks, led to the arrest of two other suspects, Ahmed Ali and Mohammad Hussain on November 5. Both were remanded to judicial custody. The police also arrested their accomplice Dutta, a resident of Sewak Ashram Road, Dalanwala, on charges of multiple counts of forgery, cheating and conspiracy. The SSP said that the police will interrogate the accused and will continue their inquiry into the full extent of the fraud.
