The State Vigilance department is expected to make some arrests in the Uttarakhand police sub-inspector recruitment cheating case in the upcoming days after the State administration’s approval to register a case against all accused on Friday.
The matter of the scam in the police SI recruitment which was conducted by Pantnagar University in 2015 came into light during the investigation of the Special Task Force (STF) into the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate level recruitment exam leak case.
The STF’s investigation led to the discovery of irregularities in several other recruitments including the Uttarakhand police SI recruitment 2015-16. The STF’s investigation revealed that the question paper was allegedly leaked to some candidates before the police SI recruitment exam. The authorities have also been suspecting tampering with the OMR sheets of some candidates too. The State administration handed over the investigation to the vigilance department to probe the matter in August. The department conducted a preliminary investigation in the case and sent a report to the State administration. The department has also written to the administration on September 22 seeking approval on registering a case against the accused which has been approved on Friday.
As per the letter issued by the additional secretary Lalit Mohan Rayal to the director of the Vigilance department Amit Sinha, the State administration has approved the department’s request seeking permission to file the case against guilty parties involved in the police SI recruitment exam cheating case under several relevant acts. Rayal has also asked the department to keep the State administration apprised of the action being taken in the matter to nab the culprits. It was being said recently that the OMR sheets of 2015 have allegedly been destroyed which could be concrete evidence on the matter but the department said they would take action if the allegation would prove to be true in the investigation. The vigilance director Amit Sinha said that since the department has received the approval of the State administration, the department will soon register a case against the accused and take necessary action as per the law.
