NEP 2020 launched for higher education in Uttarakhand

The Union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in higher education in Uttarakhand for the 2022-23 academic session on Sunday.
Pradhan congratulated Uttarakhand for being the first state to implement NEP 2020 earlier in Bal Vatika for primary education with the same also being launched for higher education now.
He said, “Under the NEP 2020 children are being connected to formal education from the age of three years. After learning in Bal Vatika for three years, the child will enter class I aged six years. For better and quality education to children from adolescence to the age of 21-22 years, Uttarakhand will have to move forward with a target of 40 lakh children. The State already has facilities for 35 lakh capacity in school education, higher education, technical education, medical-paramedical and other spheres. At a time when the nation is moving towards becoming digital India, the higher education policy being made in Uttarakhand is a major step towards achieving this.”
Dhami said that the Higher Education department has taken effective steps for implementation of NEP 2020. He stressed on the importance of working on the childhood and education of the coming generation to make it more talented.
Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat credited the School Education and Higher Education departments for implementation of NEP 2020 in the State. He said that admissions have been started in higher education institutions in the current session under NEP 2020. The new syllabus is based on research, innovation and entrepreneurship with advance courses like robotics also being included, he added.
Later, Pradhan chaired a meeting to review works of the Education, Higher Education and Skill Development departments. He said that for successful implementation of NEP and further improving the education system, the District Institute for Education and Training (DIET) will also have to focus on NIPUN (National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) Bharat mission and teachers will have to be provided better training for this purpose. He said that future requirements should be considered while facilitating skill development courses to enable the learning of new skills by the children. He said that Uttarakhand has the potential to become a skill development hub.
The CM said that Uttarakhand is striving to become a model State with every department having been directed to prepare roadmap for the next three years and coming 10 years. He directed the officials to ensure proper implementation of the suggestions made by Pradhan for education and skill development. Rawat said that curriculum has been prepared for higher education according to NEP 2020. A State-level task force, screening committee and curriculum design committee were formed and these prepared the curriculum after several rounds of meetings and suggestions in the public domain.
