Tired of husband’s gambling, wife commits suicide

A wife of a man allegedly addicted to gambling committed suicide in the SIIDCUL area of Haridwar on Wednesday night. The police have begun an investigation in the matter.
According to sources, factory worker Rajendra reportedly lost about Rs 1.50 lakh in gambling. He mortgaged his wife’s jewellery to overcome the gambling losses. There was a quarrel between the husband and wife regarding this matter and the wife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself under suspicious circumstances. The police have sent the body for post mortem and begun investigation in the case.
SIIDCUL police station inspector Pramod Uniyal said that Almora native Rajendra works in ITC company at SIIDCUL in Haridwar. He was living in a rented house with his wife Prabha. Both also have a child.
After coming from duty, Rajendra used to run a Chinese food cart and his wife used to help him. It is learned that Rajendra was addicted to gambling and had mortgaged his wife’s jewelry after losing a considerable amount in gambling. There was a fight between the two regarding this matter.
Meanwhile, under suspicious circumstances, Prabha committed suicide by hanging herself in her room on Wednesday night. Inspector Uniyal said that while the body was sent for post-mortem, the family members of the deceased have been informed. On receipt of application, action will be taken by registering a case of dowry death, he said.
