The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Dehradun will organise National Lok Adalat on November 12 as per the directions of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) to dispose of pending cases through settlement.

Lok Adalats are held at regular intervals in all courts from the Supreme Court to the district court level wherein cases are disposed of in considerable numbers. The DLSA secretary of Dehradun, Harsh Yadav informed that Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on Saturday this week in all courts of the district from 10 AM to 4 PM. He said that Lok Adalat is a forum where cases that are pending in the courts or are at the pre-litigation stage are tried to settle amicably. The cases related to banks and debt recovery, motor accidents, electricity and water bills, land acquisitions and family disputes among others which can be settled through amicable settlements are also entertained in Lok Adalats.

The DLSA secretary said that the aim of organising Lok Adalat at regular intervals is to strengthen consumer protection and safety through progressive legislation, empower consumers through awareness and education, and provide access to fair and efficient grievance redressal mechanisms. He said that considering the benefits of the Lok Adalat system and mutual settlement between parties, a large number of consumer cases are expected to be disposed of this time too.  Since the cases are settled mutually between the parties, the decision taken in Lok Adalats cannot be challenged afterwards which gives a sense of security to both parties, added Yadav. He said that for further information and assistance to get their pending case referred to Lok Adalat, interested parties can register their cases for reference to Lok Adalat through the link http://cms.nic.in/ncdrcusersWeb/lad.do?method=lalp or can call on the National Consumer Helpline 1915.
