Affected families of Joshimath still wait for clarity on compensation- Ganesh Godiyal

The former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has said that the cabinet meeting held on Friday failed to allay the apprehensions of the affected families of Joshimath on the compensation. Addressing the media persons at Rajiv Bhawan here on Saturday, the Congress leader said the Congress party had demanded that the criteria used for disbursing compensation in Badrinath should be used in Joshimath but no decision was taken in this regard in the meeting of the cabinet. He said that no clear statement regarding the compensation is given by the State government and the people of Joshimath are anxiously waiting to know about the amount of compensation they would receive.
He said that NTPC and the Joshimath Nagar Palika had entered into an agreement in the past according to which the NTPC would provide insurance to the houses, shops and other immovable properties in Joshimath. He said that NTPC has failed to fulfil its promise for which it should be penalised. Godiyal said that the Uttarakhand government has shown a lackadaisical approach in dealing with the crisis and it is yet to prepare the proposal of the relief package from the centre government.
Launching an attack on the State government on the Patwari examination paper leak case, the Congress leader claimed that the jobs are being sold in the State. He said that the Government drew much flak on the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSC) paper leak case and was under cloud for the illegal appointments in the cooperative department and now the people of the State have got shocked by the Patwari paper leak case. The youngsters are losing all hopes. Welcoming the decision of the State government for planning to bring a stringent anti-copying act, the Congress leader demanded that the government should disclose about the number of paper leaks, the main accused in the case. Terming the incident in which a youth of scheduled caste community was assaulted in Mori block of Uttarkashi district for entering a temple as unfortunate, Godiyal said that the government which is blowing its own trumpet on the Anti conversion act, should ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
The vice president organisation of State Congress Mathura Dutt Joshi, Garima Dasauni, Darshan Lal, Amarjeet Singh and others were present on the occasion.
