While participating in the Association of Indian Universities-organised 36th National Youth Festival at Jain University Bangalore from February 24 to 28, the Doon University team secured the second position in the theatre-mime competition. More than 120 universities participated in this festival while 24 groups took part in the theatre-mime competition. An actor-centred theatre, mime theatre is a principally non-verbal performance style with the actor’s body being the primary means of expression.
Commending the achievement, the vice-chancellor of the Doon University, Prof Surekha Dangwal said that Uttarakhand could pride itself on this achievement in a national level competition. She further spoke about the role the theatre department of the Doon University had played in it. At the national level, the cultural troupe of Doon University was headed by Dr Ajeet Panwar of the theatre department.
Mention worthy, the national youth festival in India- its focal point is the propagation of Indian culture- brings together the youth every year for a string of events involving a wide range of activities some of which are competitive. Organised by the state governments in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the festival provides the youth a platform to express their cultural abilities and showcase these at the national level.
