The police have started investigation into unidentified persons allegedly putting up boards displaying QR codes at Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines to collect donations in the name of Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC), said the director general of police Ashok Kumar on Monday.
The chairman of the committee Ajendra Ajay said that some unidentified people had put up fake QR codes at Badrinath and Kedarnath temples on the days the two shrines were reopened to the public. He said that the BKTC immediately removed the fake QR code boards soon after they were made aware of their installation.
The committee conducted an internal investigation into the matter and then filed a complaint at the respective local police stations on Sunday, said Ajai. He said that he also wants to clarify to all devotees arriving at these shrines that the BKTC presently does not use any online applications like Paytm to collect donations. The DGP has also stated that local police have started the investigation into the matter and will take action accordingly against the culprits.
