Altitude based incentives for health workers serving Char Cham pilgrims

To further strengthen the health service for the Char Dham pilgrims, the government of India has approved incentives for the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff working in the Yatra routes.
Speaking on the matter, the State health secretary and Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), R Rajesh Kumar said that the health workers work in adverse conditions while serving the Char Dham pilgrims. “They really need incentives for their service. We sought additional funds from the Centre and it was approved. The funds have been approved under the National Health Mission (NHM) in respect to Yatra,” he said.
He further said that the amount of the incentives would vary in accordance with the height they would work. While Rs 1500 will be given per day to the doctors posted at the height of 3500-3600 metres in Kedarnath, Rs 1000 will be given to the paramedical staff and nurses per day. Besides, Rs 700 will be given to the class IV employees per day on Kedarnath Dham route.
Similarly, Rs 1000 per day will be given to doctors, Rs 600 to paramedical staff and nurses and Rs 400 to class IV employees posted at an altitude of 2600-3200 metres.
Doctors posted at 1800-2500 meters altitude in Sonprayag- Jungle Chatti will be given Rs 700, paramedical staff and nurses Rs 500 and class IV employees Rs 300 per day. Likewise, for those working in Rudraprayag- Phata situated at the altitude of 700-1500 meters, Rs 400 will be given to doctors, Rs 250 to paramedical staff and nurses and Rs 150 to class IV employees per day.
The State health secretary further said that Rs 1000 per day will be given to doctors posted at an altitude of 3000-3100 meters on Ghangaria-Badrinath Dham route, Rs 600 to paramedical staff and nurses and Rs 400 to class IV employees per day as incentives. In the same way, doctors posted at Gauchar- Govind Ghat standing at the altitude of 800-1800 meters will be given Rs 400, paramedical staff and nurses Rs 250 and class IV employees Rs 150 per day.
Those working on the Gangotri and Yamunotri routes will also be given incentive amounts depending on the heights they would work.
Moreover, Swasthya Mitras are also being appointed along the Yatra routes to be selected by the chief medical officer locally. Stating this, Rajesh Kumar said that Swasthya Mitras will take the pilgrims to the nearest health centres if they have any health problem. “Swasthya Mitras will be given an honorarium of Rs 570 per day,” he said, adding that the Centre has given its nod in setting up for Cath lab in Srinagar Medical College.
