Dehradun police removed encroachments of over 100 huts from 1.5 hectares of government land in the Patelnagar area. The police also removed encroachments by street vendors with vegetables and fruit carts on footpaths near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and imposed a challan on 85 persons for violations under the Police Act.

The officials said that a drive is being run against the encroachments on government lands and people occupying space in public places affecting traffic across the district as per the recent orders issued by senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar. The police conducted this drive in the Patelnagar area on Saturday under the supervision of superintendent of police (Crime) Sarvesh Panwar and superintendent of police (city) Sarita Dobhal along with the teams of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and MDDA.

The officials said that the teams removed encroachments from MDDA’s 22 Bigha land (1.5 hectares) in the Patelnagar area near ISBT by demolishing nearly 115 huts. The police also recovered a penalty of Rs 23,500 from 85 vendors encroaching footpaths and roadside areas near ISBT. Besides this, a joint team of police and the revenue department also demolished 12 illegal mazars built on the government land in the Sahaspur area. The team demolished two mazars each in Vikasnagar, Jeetgarh, Herbertpur, Matakmajri and Bhojawala and one each in Kunja and Kulhal which were built illegally on the government’s land in the area, said the officials. The officials said that sufficient police force was deployed in the area during the demolition of Mazars to ensure anti-social elements do not disturb law and order. They said that the drive will continue in other parts of the district too.
