The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team conducted a raid on the house of Gurvinder Singh, a resident of Ratanpura village of Sultanpur Patti area in Bajpur of Udham Singh Nagar district on Wednesday. The team of the agency consists of over a dozen officials who conducted the raid in view of the alleged possibility of Singh’s links with pro-Khalistan supporters. According to them, the team did not find Singh at his home during the raid as he and his father live abroad.
Informing about the raid, the circle officer of Bajpur, Bhupendra Singh Bhandari told The Pioneer that the local police were also included in the NIA team but no information was given regarding the raid and the reason behind it. “The NIA officials reached the location to conduct the raid early morning along with local police that ended around 2 PM. We have no other details to give in this regard,” said Bhandari. The NIA on Wednesday conducted raids at 122 locations across six states- Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to dismantle crime networks between gangsters, drug smugglers and terrorist groups based in foreign countries as well as their funding and support infrastructure. The officials said that the agency suspects that some terrorist organisations and their sympathizers abroad have been allegedly operating as members of organised criminal gangs operating in the northern states of the country for targeted killings and violent criminal acts.
