Haridwar police arrested a man for killing his wife who was allegedly demanding Rs three lakh to leave her husband. The police have claimed to have nabbed the accused within 10 hours of registering the case. Informing about the incident, the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that an injured woman with multiple stab wounds on her stomach was found lying in the Dhanauri area of the district on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she died during the treatment. He said that the deceased could only tell the police her name Sakina and she had come to Kaliyar along with her husband Suhail and daughter. He said that it became a challenge to investigate the case as police had very limited information about the deceased but the absence of the husband made the police suspicious of his involvement in the case. Considering this, an intensive checking campaign was conducted simultaneously on the National Highway, State Highway and off-routes across the district late on Sunday night. The police also got to know about the victim and that she belonged to Saharanpur after which, police started collecting more information through sources in Saharanpur and Haridwar that led to their address of the rented house in the Dabki Kalan area of the district. The police arrested the husband from there, said Singh. He said that the husband has allegedly confessed to killing his wife because of consistent fights between them and she was also demanding Rs three lakh to leave him. The police have also recovered the knife used to stab the victim, added Singh.
