In latest Uttarakhand news, Haridwar will now be teeming with tens of thousands of votaries of Lord Shiva as the Sawan Kanwad Yatra has begun. They throng the Ganga ghats in Haridwar to collect water from the holy river to be later poured on Shivlings in their respective places. Meanwhile, the Haridwar district administration and police are fully prepared to ensure a safe and secure Yatra. The DGP, Uttarakhand police Ashok Kumar appealed to the devotees to extend full cooperation to the police so as to ensure that the mela passes off peacefully. He made it clear that those coming to Haridwar riding motor cycles must fit silencers in them. This is an imperative, he said as the motor cycles sans silences can catch fire and that would be dangerous for the fellow devotees. “So no motor cycles without silencers fitted in them will be allowed to enter Haridwar,” he said. Before the Yatra started, the top district police brass went to the Ganga ghat and sought blessing from the Mother Ganga for peaceful conduct of the Yatra.
