With the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), students heavily depend on chat GPT and research engines to obtain answers and solutions may suffer from negative impact on their learning skills. Experts state that AI indirectly influences the learning capabilities of children. Parents and teachers should ensure that children utilise AI as an information source rather than a content creator, the experts said.
Commenting on the use of AI, a student of class XII Priyanshu Yadav said, “Technology advancement plays a very vital role in today’s time. The emergence of AI has also changed the world of academics considerably. I think it can threaten humanity because the loss of control on AI systems may become a major concern in the future. So, I would suggest every child must understand and use AI for learning rather than excessively relying on it.”
Regarding the impact of AI, professor of management at Doon University HC Purohit said, “The implications of technology in society are a mix of positive and negative outcomes. While technological advancements can be viewed as beneficial for some individuals, they may have adverse effects on others. However, I can say that excessive use of AI will affect children in a negative way. AI directly impedes their ability to learn, which is a significant concern for the coming generations. Hence, it becomes the responsibility of parents and educators to educate children about the appropriate usage of AI.”
Associate professor at DAV (PG) College, Prashant Singh said that the advent of AI has significantly impacted children’s self-analytical capability. Presently, children depend on AI rather than utilising their cognitive abilities. Nevertheless, this situation is temporary, as the use of AI will affect their learning. “I would suggest teachers should limit the use of AI among children to foster a sense of challenge. Apart from this, IT experts must establish boundaries on AI to promote the wellbeing of children in today’s society,” said Singh.
