A child playing in the courtyard of his home was killed by a leopard in the Bharpuriya village in Pratapnagar area of Tehri district on Saturday. Officials of the Forest department, Revenue department and police reached the village on being informed about the incident. They had to face the ire of the villagers who were demanding that the big cat should be declared a maneater and killed.
According to local sources, the incident occurred in the village at about 8 PM. Arav Panwar, the three-year-old son of Sukhdev Singh Panwar was playing outside his home when a leopard picked him up and carried him about 100 metres away from the house. The family members and villagers made noise due to which the leopard left the child and ran away.
The child was taken to the community health centre in Lambgaon where he was declared dead by the doctor. The forest ranger and a police team reached the site on being informed about the incident. The villagers are demanding the leopard should be declared a maneater.
