An avalanche occurred on the Sumeru mountain near the Kedarnath temple on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at a distance from the shrine and is not reported to have caused any damage.
The avalanche which occurred at about 7:30 AM took place about four kilometres from the temple. The Rudraprayag district disaster management officer stated that no damage had been reported from the avalanche.
Such avalanches are common in the higher Himalayan region. Earlier this year, avalanches had occurred at a distance from Kedarnath temple during May and June while three similar incidents had occurred during September and October last year.
