Considering the non-enrollment of students under the RTE Act, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) plans to approach the court in the matter of Sun Valley School. SCPCR member Vinod Kaparwan stated that the Sun Valley School had initially agreed to enroll students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, following the direction of the SCPCR and Education department. However, parents have alleged that the school has only enrolled five out of 25 students under the RTE Act, he added.
He further informed that many parents have claimed that they are considering extreme steps due to the alleged mistreatment by the school, which is adversely affecting their children’s education. In response to this, the commission has decided to take this matter to court seeking a decision in favour of the parents. Additionally, it has instructed the Education department to revoke the affiliation of the school, Kaparwan added.
It will be recalled that in the past the said school had rejected admission to children under the RTE Act claiming it was exempt as it was a minority status institution. Once the commission became aware of this matter, it summoned the school representatives to submit their documents. During the meeting, the school failed to produce any documentation to support its claim. Considering this, the SCPCR and Education department had instructed the school to promptly enroll the students under the RTE Act as per the rules.
