The State department of culture will now start the regional dialect classes in December at the Himalayan Cultural Centre (HCC). The director of the department Beena Bhatt informed on Thursday that the classes were delayed due to several factors, including busy schedule and full booking slots at HCC. “However, after the festive season is over, the department intends to start such classes,” she added.
She said that people of any age can be part of the regional dialect classes. “Experienced teachers in regional languages are being hired to teach at HCC,” she added.
It can be recalled that the department had initially planned to start the dialect classes in August, but due to a lack of student registrations, the time was deferred to October. The HCC office bearers said that these classes aim to raise awareness among the people, particularly the youth, about the richness of the local dialects and to ensure that they stay rooted to the culture of the regions and the State they hail from.
