The sale of electronic appliances including televisions, washing machines and smartphones, tends to increase during the Deepawali festival. Retailers of electronic appliances state that the sale of these items typically rises during Deepawali compared to normal days. Various factors like offers, discounts and gifts have encouraged customers to purchase such electronic items during the festive season. However, the rise of e-commerce platforms has affected the sales of electronic items in physical stores compared to past years, said the retailers.
Commenting on the sale of electronic items during festive season, shop owner Vijay Sharma said, “The sale of electronic items like televisions, laptops and washing machines typically rises during the Deepawali festival. Having been in this business for the past decade, I have observed that the demand for these items increases significantly during this period. To attract customers during the festive season, we offer discounts, special offers and gifts to encourage them to purchase electronic items.”
Another electronics shop owner Rohit Manchanda expressed concern over the advent of e-commerce. He said, “It is true that electronic sales usually increase in the city market during Deepawali. However, the rise of online shopping platforms has resulted in a decline in the sale of electronic items in physical shops in recent years. These online platforms often offer lucrative deals and massive sales, which has led to a shift in customer preferences towards online shopping.”
He further added that to attract more customers this year, he has introduced special offers and discounts on the purchase of electronic items.
A customer Payal Dimri told this correspondent that people consider it auspicious to buy large items like televisions and cars during the Deepawali period. Further, significant discounts and offers also attract customers to purchase electronic items during the festive season. Additionally, online shopping applications offer more deals compared to physical stores in the market, which attracts customers to make online purchases for large items, she added.
