Snowfall in higher reaches bring down temperatures in State

Light rain & thunderstorms likely in parts of three districts today
The weather across the State took a turn with light rain and snowfall being reported in various mountainous regions since Sunday night. The provisional State capital Dehradun also witnessed a cloudy Monday though the minimum temperature increased by a few notches instead of decreasing as forecast. The weather took a turn in both Garhwal and Kumaon regions late on Sunday night. High altitude regions received snowfall with the Niti valley in the Chamoli district being covered in a blanket of fresh snow. The fresh snowfall in the higher reaches has caused a considerable drop in the temperatures. A resident of Niti valley, Pushkar Singh Rana said that it started snowing in the valley at about 11 PM on Sunday. Niti, Gamshali, Bampa, Farkiya, Malari and Kosha among other villages in the region witnessed snowfall. Apart from some local residents in Malari village, the valley mostly has personnel of the Indian army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police along with personnel and labourers of the Border Roads Organisation.
Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre has forecast that very Light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Tuesday. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State. Further, shallow to moderate fog is likely to occur in some parts of Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts during the morning hours.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky with mist likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 26 degrees Celsius and nine degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Monday were 25.9 degrees Celsius and 11.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 24.8 degrees Celsius and 14.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 10.4 degrees Celsius and 2.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 15.8 degrees Celsius and six degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
