The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department will soon be shifting the rented Anganwadi centres in the State to permanent locations. Stating this, the director of the WECD department Prashant Arya informed that the WECD department will soon relocate the rented Anganwadi centres of the State to permanent sites. He said that the decision was made in response to the consistent demand of Anganwadi workers and the excessive amount paid for the centres in the form of rent. The department has decided to move the rented centre to a permanent place to avoid these ongoing costs, he added.
Arya further said that currently, out of the 20,067 Anganwadi centres in the State, a significant number are rented and not situated on permanent sites. As a result, the department aims to prioritise relocating the rented centres in poor condition and unsafe for the children and workers of the Anganwadi centres, he said.
He emphasised that approximately 2,000 rented Anganwadi centres are in a deteriorating condition and need to be relocated to permanent sites. According to the Central government, these centres will be constructed on the land of primary schools in the respective villages.
Further, he informed that the department has instructed the district programme officer to gather data regarding the land, resources, and other necessary aspects by January 15 to relocate the rented centres to permanent locations. A budget of Rs 12 lakh has been allocated for this purpose, which includes Rs eight lakh from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Rs two lakh from the State government and Rs two lakh from the Central government, he added.
