In latest news from Uttarakhand, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami felicitated two artisans from Uttarkashi among others in recognition of their unique skill showcased in the art of creative crafts with the “Uttarakhand Rajya Shilpa Ratna” award for 2022-23. The duo is Santram and Suman Lal. This award ceremony was held recently on the inaugural day of the ‘State Handloom Expo/ Handloom Exhibition’ at Race Course ground in Dehradun.
These two artisans were selected by the district level committee headed by the district industries centre, Uttarkashi chief Ajay Kumar. Thereafter, the state level committee also gave the final seal of approval.
Along with the award, the CM presented them with citation and a cheque of Rs one lakh to each. Dhami spoke of them appreciatively, saying that they should cling to wood art and contribute in further enriching it with their rare skill.
Notably, the objective behind the presentation of the Uttarakhand Rajya Shilpa Ratna Award is to felicitate the skilled and accomplished craftsmen and also to promote the traditional wood art.
