As a part of the Know India Programme (KIP) of the Government of India, 40 diaspora youths of Indian origin from different countries visited Council of Scientific And Industrial Research Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP). The KIP, which was launched in 2003-04, is an initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs, aimed at engaging and making the young Indian diaspora in the age group of 21 to 35 years feel a sense of connection with their motherland and give them an exposure to various aspects of contemporary India’s forms of art, heritage, culture, economy, Innovation, Science & Technology and the like.
The was the 74th edition and the diaspora youths of Indian origin from Mauritius, Myanmar, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, Malaysia, Suriname, Fiji, and Guyana, who are the second/ third generation Indians and most of them have not visited India before participated in the programme. The objective of the visit was to provide the participants with valuable insight into the processes and innovative technologies involved in developing and refining petrochemical/chemical products.
The director CSIR-IIP, H S Bisht presented a brief overview of the institute, covering its mandate. The participants then visited the Advanced Gas Separation laboratory, Domestic combustion laboratory, Bio-Jet fuel pilot plant and Waste plastics to fuel pilot plants and interacted with the scientists and technical personnel.
