The Gangotri national park was reopened for visitors on Monday after a winter break of four months. The historic Gartangali trek in Uttarkashi was also reopened to the visitors on the same day. With the reopening of the national park’s gates, visitors will now be able to visit Gaumukh, Tapovan, Nelang and Gartangali. However, due to snowfall in the winter and the recent past, tourists will have to wait for two to three weeks to visit Gaumukh and Tapovan.

Along with this, prayers were also offered at Gartangali, Kedar Tal, Bhairav Ghati Nelang check post. Now tourists can visit Gartangali, Nelang, Kedar Tal along with Gomukh and Tapovan to see the park. Gangotri National Park Area Ranger Pradeep Bisht said that on Monday, all four gates of Gangotri National Park have been opened for the movement of tourists. He sid that the glaciers coming in the way of Gaumukh area will be removed when the weather becomes favourable. The road between Gomukh and Tapovan will be cleared in two-three weeks. Bisht said that he is hopeful that thousands of tourists will visit the National Park this year.
The Gangotri national park was established in 1989 and is spread over an area of 1,553 square kilometers and scales up to an altitude of 7,073 metres. The national park is enveloped in lush coniferous forests, meadows and glaciers. Some of the wildlife inhabiting this region includes bharal or blue sheep, black bear, brown bear, Himalayan Monal, Himalayan snowcock, Himalayan Tahr, musk deer and snow leopard.
