Minority community seeks development, employment & sense of security from new Govt

Saturday, 20 April 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Despite the efforts of political parties to capitalise on differences during the Lok Sabha election, members of the minority community in Uttarakhand voted on Friday seeking the development of underprivileged families, employment opportunities and a sense of security in their community. This was stated by several people belonging to the minority community who voted in Dehradun on Friday. A graduate student Mohammad Altaf said that unemployment is one of the main issues in the State among educated and uneducated classes of all the communities and the new government should adopt practical approaches to tackle it.

A school teacher Anam Abbasi said that many children of the community, especially girls, remain deprived of basic education. “I voted expecting the new government to raise awareness among families to send their children to schools for a better future,” she added.  Businessman Imran Sheikh said, “We witnessed great disturbance in harmony between the minority community and the majority community in certain parts of the State in the past two years. The whole scenario like the so-called love Jihad cases disturbed the innocent people who were never part of such things. I hope the new government and our representative will at least try to not propagate these issues for political gains and treat us like normal citizens. I seek a safe space for our community in the State like before.”
