In latest news from Dehradun, with the proposal for a bench of the High Court to be set up in Rishikesh, BJP veteran and former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari wrote to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging him to ponder over the points he is raising before taking any decision on this sensitive matter.
He stressed in his letter that during serious deliberations on the new Uttarakhand State, it was decided that while Dehradun would be made the provisional capital the High Court would continue functioning from Nainital. He further wrote that since the time of British regime, Nainital remained the summer capital of Uttar Pradesh. At a time when Uttarakhand was coming up, Nainital was not chosen as the capital given the paucity of space there to house the huge governmental machinery and accommodate the bureaucrats, but it was decided at the same time that the State’s High Court would continue to operate from Nainital, Koshyari reasoned.
He raised many other points like these in the letter which are likely to trigger a major debate and deliberation on the proposed High Court bench in Rishikesh.
