Vehicle carrying 18 pilgrims overturns near Gangotri highway

A vehicle carrying 18 pilgrims from Ahmedabad in Gujarat overturned ahead of Songad on the Gangotri National Highway on Wednesday. The pilgrims sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The pilgrims were heading for Gangotri Dham when the vehicle reportedly lost control and overturned near Songad ahead of Dhabrani on the highway, the officials said. They informed that the accident occurred around the afternoon and the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was called to the spot. The rescue team started the operation and rescued all 18 passengers of the vehicle. The police sent them to the nearest hospital for treatment with the help of two ambulances. The officials said that the SDRF team also handed over all the valuables and essential items of passengers found in the vehicle to the local police. The said vehicle had a number plate of Haryana and was carrying pilgrims from Ahmedabad. The driver told the police the vehicle overturned due to sudden release of brakes and he lost control. The police will also question the pilgrims and will take further action accordingly in the matter, the officials added.
