Considering the unprecedented rush of pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra, the State government has taken various steps to regulate the pilgrimage. The registration of pilgrims has been made mandatory and those without registration will not be allowed to visit the Char Dham. Further, the offline registration counters in Rishikesh and Haridwar will be closed from May 17 to 19. On the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief secretary Radha Raturi has also written to all the States informing that the stay on VIP visits to the Char Dham has been extended by a week till May 31.
According to official data, more than 27 lakh people have registered so far to visit the Char Dham temples while about four lakh people have visited the Char Dham since their reopening on May 10 and 12. With pilgrims continuing to throng the State, the government has decided to close the offline registration centres in Rishikesh and Haridwar from May 17 to 19. This decision has been taken considering the safety and convenience of the pilgrims who have already registered. The government has also made registration mandatory to enable the visitors to visit the Char Dham temples on the registered date. After registration, the pilgrims can take tokens at the temple and pay obeisance to the deities on time. The pilgrims have been requested to not undertake the pilgrimage without registration and to reach the Char Dham on the date in their registration.
