With people participating in the Uttarakhand High Court-launched online referendum to decide on relocating the HC from Nainital, Kumaun Garhwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI) suggested HC’s relocation to Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district. KGCCI president Ashok Bansal said that the ideal place to house the HC is 180 acre land beside the district court in Rudrapur along the Rudrapur-Nainital national highway. This land does not belong to the Forest department and is well-connected with all parts of the State by road, rail and air transport. This land is large enough to house the court, office, quarters and other facilities.
Bansal further said that the district magistrate’s office, SSP office and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College are located near this land. From the security point of view, it is an ideal place too for HC’s relocation with 31 BN PAC, 46 B Task Force PAC and Reserve Police Line being located there. Stating that the present location of the HC in Nainital is disadvantageous for the poor people, he said that they find it very difficult to manage accommodation with the hotel charges being expensive for them. Rudrapur, on the other hand, has more than 250 budget hotels, eateries and dharamshalas, he said.
