The Nainital district administration has commenced preparations to transplant 40 trees affected by the proposed widening of 13 intersections in Haldwani. The Nainital district magistrate Vandana Singh has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to prepare a detailed project report regarding the tree transplantation and submit it to her office soon. She also reviewed the preparations made by the departments concerned so far. The DM informed that the PWD, the Municipal Corporation of Haldwani (MCH) and the Forest department have conducted a survey on stretches leading to 13 intersections to identify these trees with the experts in the tree transplantation process. She said that only those trees will be transplanted or relocated which have an 80 per cent chance of survival. The departments concerned will identify new places where these trees will be relocated. They will ensure that the whole process is carried out efficiently for the successful transplantation of the maximum number of trees out of the 40 trees. Singh said that the widening of these 13 intersections will considerably improve traffic management in the city. Besides this, the administration will also do landscaping of about 12 parks along the Nainital Road so that the tourists going to other districts of Kumaon division from there will be able to feel connected to the mountainous areas and nature. The administration has nominated PWD as the nodal agency of the project. The Forest department and MCH have also been nominated as assistant nodal agencies for the project of the landscaping of the parks, the DM added.
