Rain brings relief from heat, heat wave conditions unlikely to continue

Rain and thunderstorms in the evening provided some relief from the heat wave conditions in parts of the State on Saturday. The maximum temperature in Dehradun reached 42.1 degrees Celsius though a spell of rain and hail in some areas during the evening followed by a spell of rain, and windy conditions in the night provided considerable relief from the heat. The State meteorological centre directora Bikram Singh said that heat wave conditions are not expected in the State from Sunday onward.

The meteorological centre has forecast that light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous districts. Dry weather is likely to prevail in plain districts of the State today. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous districts today.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, people in Dehradun and other parts of the plains woke up to the usual hot conditions being experienced for some time now. Singh said that heat wave conditions were experienced in a few places in the plains and mountainous areas of the State. Rain and thunderstorms provided considerable relief from the heat in Dehradun and some other parts of the State towards the evening. Singh said that the weather is likely to take a turn with rain and thunderstorms expected to bring some relief. Such weather activity is forecast to become more active on Tuesday-Wednesday. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly cloudy sky with possibility of light rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty wind (40-50 kmph) in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 40 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Saturday were 42.1 degrees Celsius and 24.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 39.5 degrees Celsius and 25.6 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 31 degrees Celsius and 16.8 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar, 30.6 degrees Celsius and 18.6 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
