Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and workers paid homage to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his death anniversary on Sunday. Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri, cabinet minister Saurabh Bahuguna and position holder Jyoti Gairola were among those present in the main function held in the party’s State office in Dehradun to mark the occasion.
Addressing the gathering as the main speaker, Gairola said that Mukherjee was not only the founder of Jana Sangh but also a torchbearer of the national thought due to which India emerged strongly as a nation on the global platform. “He was the first person to sacrifice his life for the unity of the nation after independence who had sacrificed his life opposing two constitutions, two flags and two Prime Ministers in Kashmir. He initiated making the nationalist ideology a part of Indian politics. Pursuing this policy, all our workers have made efforts to make BJP the world’s largest political party. The Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had paid real tribute to Mukherjee by facilitating the abrogation of Article 370 from Kashmir,” he said.
Khanduri said that Mukherjee had brought the nationalist ideology into the mainstream of national politics. She said, “We should inculcate his ideals as part of our values and behaviour. We must take the nation forward while maintaining humane ideas along with development.”
