The chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna ordered putting on hold the salaries of six personnel posted in the disaster control room set up in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) building to tackle waterlogging and related issues during monsoon. Khanna took this step after finding three personnel absent in the control room and three reached there late during the inspection on the weekend. Khanna said that the control room is set up to be available for the public day and night to address their issues during monsoon. The MCD has been appointing personnel there in three shifts to ensure nobody has to overwork while ensuring the control room addresses public grievances on time. However, he found that six personnel were either absent or late for their duties on Saturday considering which, their salaries will be delayed for this month, Khanna said. On Saturday, the MCD control room received six complaints regarding waterlogging and one complaint about a blocked drain on Sunday till evening. Khanna said that the MCD has also formed a quick response team to tackle waterlogging and related issues in all wards. Besides this, the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika also ordered the MCD officials to expedite the pending cleaning work of drains and sewers to prevent blockage and waterlogging. She said that the administration will take strict action against officials concerned if people have to face severe waterlogging during monsoon despite all efforts.
