Following the direction of the State education secretary Ravinath Raman, the education department has postponed the revocation of affiliation for Sun Valley School. Informing this, the chief education officer (CEO) Pradeep Rawat said that the postponement decision followed a meeting of the senior education department officials, including the additional secretary. “During the meeting, it came to light that approximately 2,100 students are enrolled in the school and then the education secretary instructed the department to defer the revocation to safeguard the students’ academic pursuits,” he said and added that revocation of the school’s affiliation would be kept on hold until the department submits a comprehensive report to the secretary on the school’s affiliation issue.
To recall, in 2023, the school came into critical focus after some students- slated for enrollment under the Right To Education (RTE) Act- were not enrolled, prodding their parents to take the matter to the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR). The school in defence flaunted its minority status and averred that they could not be forced to comply with the Right to Education Act. After numerous warnings spanning nearly a year, the education department decided to revoke the school’s affiliation.
