The Uttarakhand government has reversed the decision of the State administration on the lease issue of Saint Joseph Academy Dehradun.

On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the State chief secretary Radha Raturi held a meeting with secretary Housing, district magistrate of Dehradun, senior superintendent of police Dehradun and  officers of Mussoorie  Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA)  in the secretariat on Wednesday on the land and parking issue of Saint Joseph Academy, Dehradun.  In the meeting, it was decided that the land will not be taken back from the school.

The CS directed that St Joseph Academy will make parking arrangements for the vehicles of students and parents within the school premises itself, so that the general public is spared from the problem of traffic congestion. Raturi also directed the housing department to start the process of renewal of lease of the school.

It is pertinent to mention here that Saint Joseph Academy had been granted a lease of 90 years for construction of school in the year 1934. In view of the problem of parking on the busy Rajpur road and areas near the State secretariat the housing department had taken a decision of not renewing lease of about 20 bighas out of total 86 bighas of the school land. The department had intended to use this land for parking of vehicles. However this decision was reversed by the State government on Wednesday.
