MCD light section staff barred from going on leave till Deepawali

Maintaining focus on ensuring the proper functioning of all streetlights in Dehradun city, district magistrate and Municipal Corporation of Dehradun administrator Savin Bansal has cancelled the leave of officials connected to the corporation’s light section till Deepawali. According to officials, the authorities have so far repaired 6,000 streetlights.
Work on repairing or replacing faulty streetlights is underway on a war footing in the area under the purview of the MCD with the teams replacing more than 500 lights daily on an average. Members of 35 teams have been visiting the municipal wards daily since October 9 to repair or replace the streetlights with the work being monitored on a daily basis. According to information received, till late on Sunday night, the MCD teams had repaired 646 streetlights in various wards. To ensure that the work is done efficiently in time for the festival of Deepawali, Bansal has directed that the officials and personnel linked to the light works in the MCD will not go on leave till Deepawali. Further, the 570 lights sent by EESL company to the Meeruth repair centre have been received after being repaired. The company has handed over 208 repaired streetlights to the MCD while the corporation has given 334 units to the company for repairs. The MCD currently has more than 1,500 streetlights available. In addition to this, 11 teams were sent to former councillors and other public representatives while the other teams are working on complaints received through the CM helpline and other sources.
