International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed in Doon

To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Sanjay Orthopaedic, Spine and Maternity Centre and Seva Society organised a seminar on disability, felicitation ceremony and free orthopaedic consultation camp on Tuesday. Among the dignitaries present were the chairman, Minority Commission, Uttarakhand R K Jain, the Maiti Movement pioneer Kalyan Singh Rawat, the vice -chancellor of Sparsh Himalayan University K N Jain and senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr J P Navani aside from Padma Shri awarded orthopaedic surgeon Dr B K S Sanjay and orthopaedic surgeons Dr Gaurav Sanjay and Dr Sujata Sanjay. Some specially abled players along with the organisations working in the field of disability were felicitated on the occasion for their remarkable works.
Dr Sanjay in his address said that the longer the disability lasts, its impact increases proportionately, adding that deformities should be treated at the earliest. He further said that previously cerebral palsy and polio were the main causes of disability while presently road accidents have become the main cause of disability. “India is polio- free since 2014. Though no new cases are being reported, there are lakhs of old polio cases and CP patients,” he added.
