CCTV cameras to reduce theft & eve teasing at major markets in Doon

The president of the Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) Pankaj Mason said that incidents of theft and eve teasing among other offences in Dehradun’s key markets, including Paltan Bazaar and Jhanda Bazaar, would decline substantially due to the recent installation of CCTV cameras.
Notably, concerned with these incidents happening unabated in these bustling market areas, the district magistrate Savin Bansal had taken a fund-approval initiative for CCTV camera installation. Consequently, a budget of Rs 12 lakh had been approved. Though the DM had instructed the police to oversee their prompt installation things had been delayed, prompting DVMUVM president to meet the senior superintendent of police, Dehradun.
The matter had got closed with the completion of the CCTV camera installation process in the designated areas. These cameras will become operational in a few days.
“We expect that these cameras will become operational in two to three days,” Mason said, adding that they were grateful to the administration and police for prompt actions on this long-pending matter.
“We are sure that this initiative will drastically reduce the number of theft and harassment cases in the market areas of the city. If 22 cameras prove insufficient we will request for installation of additional cameras,” he said.
Notably, the areas where cameras have been installed include Ghantaghar, CNI Chowk, Macchi Bazaar, Kotwali, Moti Bazaar, vegetable market, Jhanda Chowk, Tehsil Chowk, Dispensary Road, Ghosi Gali, Ansari Market and Raja Road among others.
