National Games will establish Haridwar as sports city: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched 239 projects worth Rs 54.31 crore at the newly constructed sports complex in Haridwar on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, he said the State government is committed to the development of Uttarakhand under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the projects unveiled today will help in giving a spurt in development activities in Haridwar.
He said that the tennis court, cricket practice pitch and badminton court of the newly constructed sports complex developed by the Haridwar-Roorkee development authority will help the players of Haridwar and the State. The CM said that the city sports complex is a major achievement in view of the ensuing 38th National Games being hosted by Uttarakhand.
The CM said that the preparations for the national games are going on at full pace. He said that the State government has constructed stadiums and indoor stadiums in different parts of the State for the national games.
The CM said that some events of National Games will also be organised in Haridwar and it will give recognition of Haridwar as a sports city.
He said that the State government is preparing for the winter Char Dham Yatra which will ensure that the Yatra remains operational throughout the year. The CM said that being the base station of Yatra, new employment opportunities will be created in Haridwar.
He said that the construction of the government medical college building is in its last phase in Haridwar. A modern degree college has started functioning in the Laldhang area and a health centre has been set up in Shyampur for strengthening the health services in rural areas of Haridwar.
The CM said that the State government is working on the Haridwar- Rishikesh corridor to make Haridwar grand and divine. The government is also working on construction of helipads in Haridwar and a plan to decongest traffic in the city. Dhami said that the work on Har ki Paidi- Chandidevi temple will start soon.
In his address, the CM reiterated the commitment of his government on preserving the demography of the State and implementing the Uniform Civil Code.
Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj, MLAs Madan Kaushik, Pradeep Batra and others were present in the ceremony.
