PNS | DEHRADUN

Since Mussoorie is expected to witness a significant influx of tourists during Christmas, New Year and the winter season, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal introduced special travel arrangements to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain law and order till January 20. The district administration has implemented a winter travel management plan under section 163(1) of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). This initiative is the first such comprehensive system implemented in Mussoorie, the DM said. He informed that temporary satellite parking facilities have been set up at Hathipaon on George Everest Road, Bassaghat and Kuthal Gate while a permanent parking facility has been established at Kincraig. The responsibility for organising these parking zones and displaying proper vehicle classifications lies with officials from the Public Works Department, Regional Transport Office (Enforcement), Municipal Council of Mussoorie, district tourism development officer and traffic police.

Bansal said that shuttle services will also operate from designated parking areas to facilitate the smooth movement of tourists. The DM has directed the RTO to maintain records of passengers using the shuttle service and ensure adequate availability of shuttles. The RTO will also monitor booth operations for shuttle services and coordinate with service providers and overall management at parking locations. The police will see arrangements of traffic management at parking sites, including diverting vehicles to designated parking zones and ensuring systematic entry and exit, as per DM. He said that basic amenities such as lighting, mobile toilets and drinking water will be provided at parking sites to ensure a comfortable experience for visitors in Mussoorie.

The officials concerned of Dehradun and Mussoorie municipal bodies will arrange sufficient rickshaws and golf carts for tourists commuting between the Library Chowk and Picture Palace areas. Bansal said that violations of these orders will result in legal action under Section 223 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The directives are effective immediately and will remain in place until January 20, 2025, he added. Bansal said that these measures aim to enhance the overall experience for tourists while ensuring that the local law and order situation remains intact.
