Authorities should focus on roadside encroachment by three-wheelers too: Dandriyal

After removing several encroachments in the recent anti-encroachment drive of the Dehradun district administration, the authorities should now focus on the removal of the encroachments on the roads by three-wheeler vehicles. This was stated by the president of Dehradun Mahanagar City Bus Seva Mahasangh, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal as according to him, most of the drivers of Vikrams, autorickshaws and electric rickshaws have encroached on several roads and made them their unofficial stands in the city for years now. He asserted that when the authorities can remove encroachments of small colonies and areas, why the authorities do not take any action against the operators of such vehicles that cause traffic jams on the road. “There is at least one Vikram stand and auto rickshaw stand on the roadside areas of almost every main road that occupies a lot of space causing traffic issues and nuisance to locals but the administration as well as the police stay silent in this matter,” said Dandriyal. He further informed that he received information through the police department under the Right to Information (RTI) Act in which it is stated that neither the police have authorised these places as stands to Vikram and autorickshaw drivers nor have they any authority to do so. If the authorities know that these stands are unauthorised, how these people are encroaching the main roads without any consequences for so many years, asked Dandriyal. “These roadside encroachments make the city look bad besides causing traffic problems and this encroachment is increasing every year. Further, the authorities should also investigate that under whose influence all these three-wheeler vehicles are being operated for years,” said Dandriyal.
