The administration will shift the female patients from the State Mental Health Institute of Selaqui to Nari Niketan in January. While stating this, the director of women welfare directorate Yogendra Yadav disclosed that there are only about 10 women who are mentally stable enough to be shifted to Kedarpuram situated Nari Niketan but due to Covid-19 pandemic, they have not been shifted to a new place so far.
A few months back, there were only beds for 22 male patients and 18 female patients in the hospital but the chief medical superintendent (CMS) Dr CP Tripathi informed that 18 more beds were added recently in male and female wards for new patients.
Referring to the situation in the hospital, he said that the procedure of shifting the patients is under process. Besides shifting some female patients to Nari Niketan, Tripathi said that the administration is also in talks with some agencies to shift the other patients too. According to him, there is a non-profit organisation in Rajasthan where the talks of shifting the patients from here is under process but since it is an inter-state matter, it will be done through the State Government level. Tripathi said that there are many patients in the mental health institute who are living there for years and shifting some patients to another place with a suitable environment will help the institute to treat more mental patients in future.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand women welfare directorate will also commence the construction of a new block in Kedarpuram situated Nari Niketan with the accommodating capacity of about 40 women inmates and the work is expected to begin soon. Besides this, the directorate has also installed 100 new iron beds recently in Nari Niketan as those termites in old wooden beds and repetitive fumigation process in rooms were troublesome for women living there.
