Govt extends validity of vehicle documents
After the Central Government extended the validity of documents including permits, driving licenses (DLs), fitness and registration certificates (RC) of commercial vehicles, several transport unions of Uttarakhand stated that the decision will benefit the operators of over two lakh commercial vehicles across the State. This Sunday, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued an advisory of extending the validity of all the documents related to the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 till March 31 which got expired since February or would expire by March 31, 2021 and could not be renewed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The representatives of several commercial vehicles said that they are thankful to the State Government for this decision. The president of the city bus association said that the documents of several operators are pending in the State due to the pandemic and this extension by the Central Government will benefit the operators of about 2.50 lakh commercial vehicles that include Vikrams, buses, autorickshaws, trucks, taxis and cabs.
