UJVNL elicits focus on emergency action plan

The UJVN Limited in coordination with the Central Water Commission held a virtual meeting on implementation of emergency action plan under the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) on Monday.

Speaking in the meeting, UJVNL managing director Sandeep Singhal said that the emergency action plan is vital for preparing for sudden devastating accidents and disasters along with protection from such events. As part of this plan, the condition of glaciers, rivers and catchment areas of power projects should be monitored with satellite based GIS technology. The figures obtained should be studied in detail periodically so that any untoward incident can be anticipated and measures can be taken to protect life and property. He said that UJVNL is executing the works under DRIP. Other speakers in the meeting opined that the emergency action plan should be a dynamic plan which incorporates any changes made in the ground and technical level so that it remains relevant.  They also said that since UJVNL is the main agency to implement DRIP in Uttarakhand, it should play a major role in this with the cooperation of THDC, NHPC and other electricity producers. The speakers also stressed on the need for periodic mock drills considering possible disasters and accidents.
