CM orders inquiry in canal construction irregularities

Taking a stern note of the irregularities worth crores of rupees in Haridwar and Rudraprayag districts in the construction of irrigation canals, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has ordered for an inquiry. On the orders of CM, the secretary irrigation has set up a three member committee for investigating the matter. The committee would be headed by Joint secretary J L Sharma and would have chief engineer Jaipal Singh and finance controller Kavita Nambiyal as members. The committee would submit its report in two weeks to the state administration. 

It is worth mentioning here that in the Jakholi block of Rudraprayag district an approval of Rs 9.84 crores was given in March 2012 from Rural Infrastructure development fund for construction of an 18 km long canal. Gross irregularities were found in the project. Similarly a sum of Rs 695.98 lakh was approved under AIVP for construction of Subashgarh irrigation canal in Laksar block of Haridwar district. The farmers of the region were not able to get water from this canal.
