Secretary takes stock of disaster preparedness for monsoon

Measures like bulk message service should be activated to ensure swift reporting in case of disasters. The disaster management secretary SA Murugesan said this while chairing a meeting regarding the preparedness for emergencies during the coming monsoon.
He said that bulk messaging service should be started so that important initial report about a disaster reaches the general public. Checking the preparations of the disaster control room and stressed on preparing the list of contract numbers and descriptions of the officials concerned of national agencies, army and paramilitary forces, state and district level departmental officials. He also directed that voluntary organisations, Yuvak Mangal Dal/Mahila Mangal Dal, search and rescue teams of the disaster management department and others should be contacted so that assistance can be sought from them during disaster situations. He directed departmental officials to inform about the requirement for important equipment now. Murugesan stressed that information should be exchanged in the reporting format so that coordination can be established swiftly with nodal officers of departments concerned and response can be immediate in case of a disaster scenario. Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) executive director Piyoosh Rautela, additional CEO (Administration) Anand Srivastav and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
