The Assembly speaker Prem Chand Agarwal has said that the proposed toll plaza on Haridwar- Dehradun national highway at Nepali Farm has been scrapped.
Informing the media persons on Saturday the speaker said that he was in touch with the chief minister, union education minister and officers of Public Works Department (PWD) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the issue. He said that it was not proper to have two tolls located nearby on one stretch of road and it would have been a financial burden on people.
The speaker thanked the Uttarakhand government and CM for scrapping the toll plaza in public interest. He also appealed to those sitting in protest against the toll plaza to take back their agitation. It is worth mentioning here that many organisations and Pradhan association were sitting on a protest at the proposed toll plaza site. The area where the toll plaza was being planned falls in the assembly constituency of Rishikesh which is represented by Agarwal.
