Electoral rolls; 30,808 new voters added in U’khand

An increase of 30,808 voters has been registered in Uttarakhand since January this year. The data released by the election commission on Tuesday show that there are a total of 7,846,000 voters in the state out of whom 4,087,018 are males, 3,758,731 female and 251 other voters. The state had 7,815,192 voters on January 15 this year.

Releasing the integrated draft electoral roll on Tuesday, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttarakhand, Sowjanya said that 1,32,291 new voters were added in the rolls while names of 1,01,483 voters were deleted in the electoral rolls due to reasons like duplicity and transfers.

 As per the rolls, there are 1,408,448 voters in Dehradun district, 1,361,387 in Haridwar, 1,229,697 in Udham Singh Nagar, 2,27,377 in Uttarkashi, 2,92,810 in Chamoli, 1,88,084 in Rudraprayag, 5,07,144 in Tehri, 5,63,285 in Pauri, 3,70,709 in Pithoragarh, 2,13,144 in Bageshwar, 5,31,263 in Almora, 1,97,373 in Champawat and 7,55,279 in Nainital. The CEO said that there are 93,978 service voters in the state out of which 91,415 are male and 2,563 female. Pauri district has maximum number of service voters (16,163) followed by Pithoragarh (14,545). Chamoli has 10,398, Dehradun 9,805, Almora 7,218 and Tehri 5,791 service voters. Sowjanya said that the number of polling booths in the state has increased from 11,024 in January to 11,647 now. She said that 500 new booths were added after the norm of minimum number of voters was reduced from 1,500 to 1,200 as that the Covid-19 guidelines are followed. She said that the process of addition and deletion of names in the electoral roll would continue.

The final publication of the electoral rolls in Uttarakhand would be done by the election commission on January 5, 2022. As per the plan the claims and objections in the rolls can be done from November 1 to 30 and thereafter four special campaigns would be launched (November 13, 14, 27 and 28). The disposal of claims and objections would be done till December 20 and the final publication of the electoral rolls would be on January 5, 2022.
